Almost twenty years since the debut of the critically acclaimed movie Ninja Scroll Madhouse revealed their intentions of making a new Ninja Scroll project.

News broke earlier this month at Sakura-Con 2012, in Seattle, where Madhouse revealed three short clips that the studio created for the project and now the official Madhouse website has confirmed that a new Ninja Scroll project is getting the go-ahead and is related to the 1993 movie directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri as well as the television series. Details are scant at the minute and the only image released so far is one of director Yoshiaki Kawajiri at Sakura Kon.

Ninja Scroll is getting a theatrical release in Japan on Friday with Kawajiri attending the screening which is ahead of the release of the Japanese Blu-ray of Ninja Scroll which will include a commentary with Kawajiri and character designer Yutaka Minowa and it will also include an English dub. The Blu-ray comes out on the 23rd of May and will cost around 100 dollars.

I hope this means Andrew can pick up Ninja Scroll for us at SLA. Can't wait to see what the new project is. I hope that it's not like the TV series.

Great news. And im glad that its going to be related to not only the movie, but also the series aswell as i think the TV series gets TOOOOOOO much hate. Infact, (and i know people are going to hate me for this) But Ninja Scroll the series is one of my most favourite anime series of all time.

Fret ye not. I have heard good things about the show.

I've never known an art form like anime for generating wildly polarised opinions among people.

I'm surprised they're announcing it as 'new', given that another Ninja Scroll film has been on the cards for years, but if it's actually got the go-ahead now, that's excellent news anyway.

It's been such a long time since Kawajiri's done a film that I'd be glad to see him direct anything at this stage.

I didn't think this was going to happen because apparently Madhouse don't have a pot to piss in at the moment. Great news that it's finally going ahead.

Also, I want that Blu-ray of the movie because the DVD is kind of bad... but not for $100. Someone in the US needs to make releasing it a priority.

Zenimax should probably sue them for market confusion. I mean, what if they want to add Ninja into future Skyrim DLC?!
