Described as a "super-liberal interpretation" of the Hyakunin Isshu anthology of poems that were written between the 7th and 13th centuries in Japan. This anthology features 100 romantic poems from 100 different poets such as The Tale of Genji's Murasaki Shikibu.
Chouyaku Hyakuninisshu: Uta Koi is based on Kei Sugita’s manga of the same name. The animation is being produced by TYO Animations and the director is Kenichi Kasai who has worked on the classic anime Nodame Cantabile. Series composition is handled by Tomoko Konparu (Nana), music comes from Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger!!!) and Aki Tsunaki (Miracle Train) is providing character design. Voice actors involved include Yuki Kaji (Shu Ouma in Guilty Crown), Saori Hayami (Saki in Eden of the East), Sanae Kobayashi (Ennis in Baccano!), and Daichi Endō (Luimon in Book of Bantorra).
