New Dragon Ball TV Anime To Premiere In July

Eighteen years have passed since the television anime Dragon Ball GT was first broadcast on Japanese television and now Shonen Jump’s hit shonen series will be returning to the small screen this July with Dragon Ball Super, which will feature a new original story written by the franchise’s creator Akira Toriyama, taking place several years after the climatic end of Dragon Ball Z‘s Buu Saga.

Osamu Nozaki, a producer from Fuji TV shared these comments about the upcoming series:

“Having loved Dragon Ball since childhood, it is very exciting to be a part of this project. Mr. Toriyama has developed a plot that’s not only a dream come true for Dragon Ball’s millions of fans, but one that will foster in a new generation of viewers.”

Mitsuaki Kido, whose career at Toei Animation started around the time the company was animating Dragon Ball Z‘s Frieza saga, will serve as the animation producer on this new series.

Manga Entertainment UK have released the three previous Dragon Ball anime series’ on DVD in the United Kingdom, as well as 2013’s theatrical feature Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods on DVD and blu-ray. A brand new animated movie, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ opened in Japan earlier this month.
