Miss Hokusai To Open MCM Loves Anime

The highly anticipated MCM Loves Anime film event is only a few days away and with fans already eagerly anticipating the opportunity to watch Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin and Love Live! The School Idol Movie, the event sponsor Anime Limited has today confirmed the two other theatrical features that will make up the four-film line-up.

Opening the event is Production I.G’s Annecy Award-winning Miss Hokusai; a captivating cinematic experience from director Keiichi Hara (Colorful) that through a series of engrossing snapshots, recalls the forgotten life of O-Ei Hokusai; the twenty-three year old artisan daughter of the Edo Period’s renowned painter, Tetsuzo of the Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji series. Following its release in Japan earlier this year, the picture has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Fantasia International Film Festival’s Satoshi Kon award for best animated feature film and the Judge’s Award at this year’s incredibly competitive Scotland Loves Anime. Anne Watanabe, the daughter of The Last Samurai‘s Ken Watanabe, plays the title role.

MCM Loves Anime will then conclude with Wit Studios’ The Empire Of Corpses; the first in a trilogy of psychological science fiction movies. Helmed by HAL director Ryoutarou Makihara and based on a series of novels by Project Itoh, the film follows the story of John Watson, a 19th century medical student who is tasked by the UK government’s secret society “The Walsingham Institution” to search for the legendary writings of Dr. Victor Frankenstein; which reportedly detail the secrets behind a more sophistocated reanimated corpse that could not only speak, but also possessed free will.

The full line-up and schedule for MCM Loves Anime is as follows:

  • 13:00 – Miss Hokusai
  • 15:00 – Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin I: Blue-Eyed Casval + II: Artesia’s Sorrow
  • 17:15 – Love Live! The School Idol Movie
  • 19:15 – The Empire Of Corpses

A ticket for the event lets you see all four movies and can be purchased for £25 from Anime Limited‘s website.

How many of you will we be seeing at MCM Loves Anime?
