Review: Mazinkaiser #1

Go Nagai is a big name in anime and is arguably most famous for his Devil Man series. Thanks to ADV UK (a DVD they released way back in September), we’ve just reviewed Mazinkaiser #1, a modern spin off from his popular Mazinger Z giant robot anime.
- I can imagine Go Nagai (the famous creator of Mazinger Z as well as Devil Man and a whole load of other famous anime) winking at himself when writing Mazinkaiser. Whilst I doubt that this anime will appeal to many people beyond dedicated mecha fans, it delivers its 70s nostalgia in such confident doses of parody and homage that even a relative genre newcomer like myself could enjoy this.
