Creator of popular children’s anime committs suicide

Rin Inumaru, the 48-year-old creator of children’s anime Ojarumaru, committed suicide (“jumped from the roof of her 14-story apartment complex in Tokyo”) on Sunday the 10 of September, leaving behind a note to her mother saying “I’m not good at my job.”

The intense pressure and stress associated with working in the Japanese anime industry is a well known problem and was most recently satirized by Satoshi Kon in his supernatural black comedy Paranoia Agent.
