The Wachowski Bros. turn their attentions on Speed Racer

Larry and Andy Wachowski – known by most for being the creative driving forces behind the ever popular Matrix movies – have confirmed their intentions to adapt the vintage racing anime “Speed Racer” into a big budget family movie, due out in 2008.

Speed Racer joins Blood: The Last Vampire and Battle Angel Alita on the list of anime that are being adapted for big budget American action movies.

The Wachowski brothers are known to be massive anime fans and worked with some of the biggest talent in the industry to produce The Animatrix anthology at the height of the Matrix’s popularity in 2003 (anime talent involved included Studio 4°C, Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe, Ninja Scroll director Yoshiaki Kawajiri and Last Exile creative driving force Mahiro Maeda).
