Voting for the American Anime Awards opens with controversy

Voting for the first annual American Anime Awards opened earlier this week (fans can vote via an internet poll) but the nominations and specifically the organization of the event has already attracted controversy.

Amongst many issues, a performance in Katsuhiro Otomo’s post-apocalyptic Akira has oddly been nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy, while ADV Films overwhelming involvement in the awards (contributing TV broadcasts and presenters amongst other things) as brought into question the impartiality of the entire scheme.
