Rounding up the London Expo; new licenses from ADV

Due to the pre-event announcements, there weren’t too many surprises (in terms of new UK anime licenses) announced at this past weekend’s London Expo, however ADV Films were able to confirm their intentions publish the following anime in the UK:

  • 009-1, Innocent Venus, Kurau: Phantom Memory, Magikano, Pumpkin Scissors, Red Garden, The Wallflower and Utawarerumono. All of these series are being (or have been) released by ADV in North America too.
  • ADV also confirmed that they intend to offer certain anime as download-only to UK subscribers, completely forgoing any UK DVD releases; first up are Air Gear, Chance Pop Sessions and Comic Party Revolution. If this proves successful, more titles are expected to go this way – a major reason being that UK DVD releases are especially expensive because of restrictive BBFC submission fees (given the dual-language nature of most anime, any given DVD release must be submitted to the BBFC twice over, therefore UK anime publishers must pay twice the fee for certification).
  • Finally, Beez revealed that the first two volumes of .hack// Roots will be issued with limited editions, including two artboxes which will each hold half the series.
  • If you love cosplay, don’t forget to check out our video of the London Expo, authored by our own jeremy1985.
