Geass, Ouran and more announced at Otakon

Although this weekend’s “Japan Expo” carried some big news for the UK industry, it was also an exciting time for US fans too, as one of their biggest conventions – Otakon – went down over the last few days, bringing with it several new anime licenses.

  • Bandai Entertainment have arguably stolen the show with several big name acquisitions. Leading their list was the “sensationalist action thriller” Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, but they also announced Toward the Terra (2007 TV series), Ayakashi Ayashi and My-Otome Zwei.
  • FUNimation finally confirmed that they have picked up the much-adored shojo comedy Ouran High School Host Club as well as the Tenchi Muyo! spin-off “Sasami: Magical Girl Club” and “BALDR FORCE EXE Resolution”.
  • Lastly, ADV Films announced their licensing of “King of Bandit Jing in Seventh Heaven” (OVA series), sci-fi drama Moonlight Mile and yuri-horror Venus Versus Virus.

Of course, given Bandai Entertainment (Beez), FUNimation (Revelation Films) and ADV Films (themselves) release a lot of their anime in the UK, it’s worth marking out all of these new licenses for potential UK DVD releases in the future.
