Afro Samurai’s profit, sequel, live action movie on the way

Following news that Afro Samurai (5 episode violent action anime from 2007) generated upwards of $13 million for US anime distributors Funimation, a follow-up movie called Afro Samurai: Resurrection is in the works and will premiere in the US during January of 2009, this time starring the voices of Lucy Liu (Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever) and Mark Hamill (Corvette Summer, Mutronics) in addition to Samuel L. Jackson (Snakes on a Plane).

Also, plans for a live action movie adaptation of Afro Samurai appear to be progressing, with Samuel L. Jackson suggesting that André Benjamin (of hip-hop band OutKast) would be perfect for the titular role of Afro.
