The international manga awards
The International MANGA Awards were established to recognize Manga artists who have contributed to disseminating Manga culture outside Japan, as part of our mission to promote Japanese pop culture and to advance people’s understanding of Japan.
The Gold Award of the Fourth International MANGA Awards will be given to the best manga and three works of merit will receive the Silver Award. To coincide with the award ceremony, The Japan Foundation is planning to invite the winners to Japan, where it will host discussions with Japanese Manga artists and organize a courtesy call on publishers. Purpose – To promote MANGA overseas.
Conditions of Entry
- The MANGA works (24 or more pages) must be produced in countries outside Japan. Both published and unpublished works are eligible except works which have previously received Manga Awards.
- The MANGA works must have been produced within the past three years.
- As a rule, the works must be submitted in printed form.
- Overseas publishing companies are permitted to apply for the Fourth International MANGA Award only if they confirm that their MANGA artists consent to their works being submitted.
How to Apply
– Application Period
31 May 2010 (entries must arrive by 31 May)
– Applications should be sent to either i) or ii) below. – Two copies of the works must be submitted. (Additional copies may be requested for works which win the award.)
– Please ensure the entry form, filled in either in English or Japanese, is attached to the works.
Return of Works – The submitted works will NOT be returned to applicants. Therefore, if works have not yet been published, the original should be retained by the artist. We reserve the right to donate submitted works to public organisations.
Selection
– The Fourth International MANGA Award Evaluation Committee is in charge of the selection procedure.
Prize
(1) The Gold Award of the Fourth International MANGA Award will be given to the best MANGA and approximately three works of merit will receive the Silver Award. Winners of the Gold Award and the Siler Awards will receive a cup and a diploma. Winners of the Bronze Awards and the Special Awards will receive a diploma and a gift.
(2) As a supplementary prize, winners (except for those receiving Bronze Awards) will be invited to Japan for around 10 days for the award ceremony.
Award Ceremony The award ceremony will be held in Tokyo in January 2011.
