MCM EXPO to host European Free Hugs Championship This May

Following their successful Eurocosplay championship last October, The MCM Expo group is launching
the first ever European Free Hugs championship this May.

The contest is a first for the event and marks another world first for the event. “This is another in an incredible long line of firsts for the MCM Expo and we are proud to flying the free hugs banner,” comments MCM Expo partner Paul Miley.

The MCM Expo is the UK’s largest event of its kind and considered by many to be London’s answer to the prestigious San Diego Comic-Con and 2011 marks its 10th Anniversary year.

The competition will be organised on behalf of the event by James “Chip The Ledge” Plowman, “When we first came up with this competition we couldn’t think of a better person to run this event than Chip The Ledge, “comment’s MCM Expo partner Bryan Cooney, “His now infamous YouTube videos have made him a legend among the convention industry and someone who is adored by attendees of all ages.”

In order to compete in this event all people need to do is register by emailing freehugs@mcmexpo.net and then they will receive a form to complete. Once done and received the successful competitors will receive a competitor’s form which has to be completed by everyone they hug. They will then have from between 9am-3pm to get as many free hugs as they can with the winner being announced later that day as part of the afternoons Cosplay Masquerade. The winning competitor will walk away with a custom made trophy and VIP entry for a year to all events organised by The MCM Expo Group.

Below is a brief summary of some of the rules that participants have to follow in order to compete (A Full set of rules can be obtained via email) :

Rules:

In Order to qualify each free hug must be ten seconds long

– All free hug recipients must be willing

– After each hug the recipient must sign a form and give their email to confirm receipt of free hug

– All those entering will be provided with an event official A5 sign with the words “Free Hugs” on it

– The winner will receive lifetime free entry to the events organised by the MCM Expo Group and a
specially designed trophy.

– All entrants must have been checked by judges for any bodily odour prior to the competition
