Miyazaki’s retirement press conference to be streamed on NicoNico
Last week, the world renowned Japanese animator and director Hayao Miyazaki, the co-founder of Studio Ghibli, announced his retirement from directing feature length movies. Following the announcement, Studio Ghibi confirmed that the Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle director will be personally holding a press conference regarding his decision. Today, the Japanese streaming website NicoNico announced that they will be streaming this conference, with English subtitles, at 6am tomorrow (UK time), with the stream opening half an hour before.
The Wind Rises, Hayao Miyazaki’s 11th and currently final movie, was released in Japanese cinemas this July and received heavy criticism from both the Japanese and South Korean media due to the nature of the film, as it looks back on the creator of the Mitsubishi A5M Type 96 Fighter, a plane used by the Japanese Imperial Navy in World War II.
