“Persona 3 The Movie #2: early summer” to debut next year in Japan
Persona 3 The Movie #1: Spring of Birth, the first in a series of movies based on Atlus’ Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 roleplaying game was released in Japanese theatres today. During a scene that played after the movie’s credits, it was announced that Persona 3 The Movie #2: early summer is currently slated to be released in Japan in summer 2014.
The film adapts the story of the original game, where a young boy (Makoto Yuki in the movies) transfers to Gekkoukan High School in Iwatodai City, where he stumbles upon the “Dark Hour” – a bizarre occurence where in a small gap between one day and the next, beings called “Shadows” who possess the ability to feed on human minds can roam free. Makoto joins up with the Specialised Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), a group of students who are investigating this strange phenomonen with the aid of “Personas”, manifestations of a person’s inner self that can be summoned into battle.
The original PlayStation 2 game was released by Koei in Europe in 2008, before a PlayStation Portable version was released by Ghostlight in 2011. Persona 4: The Animation, a TV anime adaptation of Atlus’ Persona 4 game aired in Japan between October 2011 and March 2012, before being released in the United Kingdom by KazéUK (distributed by Manga Entertainment UK).
