Sword Art Online II Previewed in Dengeki Bunko

Sword Art Online II, the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2012 Sword Art Online anime adaption of Reki Kawahara’s science fantasy light novel series was announced at the end of Sword Art Online: Extra Edition, a two hour long special that was broadcast worldwide at the beginning of the year. The announcement was brief, showing a short clip of new character Sinon (who recently appeared in the Japan-only PSP and PS Vita games), which was followed by the official confirmation that the upcoming season will be adapting the light novels’ Gun Gale Online story arc.

This month’s issue of Dengeki Bunko Magazine in Japan has revealed some more information about the upcoming 2014 series. In preperation for this new series, the design team are reported to have taken a research trip to Gaum to help them try to figure out how to incorporate the gun mechanics of Gun Gale Online. The director, Tomohiko Ito also noted that in this season, the team is trying to instil some sense of the effect the events of Sword Art Online and the lives that were lost during it have had on Kirito, as well as exploring the traumatic past of Sinon in a way that in no way glorifies it.

MangaUK are currently releasing the first TV anime series on DVD and Blu-Ray in the United Kingdom.
