DMP to release of Osamu Tezuka’s Captain Ken via Kickstarter

Digital Manga Publishing (DMP) has announced its latest Kickstarter project: an English release of Osamu Tezuka’s sci-fi series Captain Ken.

On Sunday at the Anime Central convention in Chicago, DMP said they would launch the campaign on 2nd June and plan to release both of the two volumes of Tezuka’s original work under its Digital Manga Platinum imprint.

Captain Ken is a shonen manga which features similar gender-bending theme to one of Tezuka’s more famous works, Princess Knight. Set in a future where humans have migrated to Mars. However, the humans being persecuting the native Martian population and thus the two races hate each other. The story follows a girl from Earth called Ken Minakami who visits her relatives, the Hoshinos, in the Mars city of Heden. Soon after arriving, a mysterious human gunman called Captain Ken arrives, helping the Martians. The eldest Hoshino son, Mamoru, suspects Ken Minakami is really Captain Ken.

This will be the fourth Kickstarter project launched by DMP. The first released Swallowing the Earth, the second Barbara, and the third featured several titles, these being Unico, Atomcat and Triton of the Sea
