Animatsu Licenses Nadia: The Secret Of Blue Water

Earlier today, the UK-based anime distributor Animatsu posted a teaser image on their Instagram account, challenging readers to guess what their next license announcement would be. Following a correct guess, Animatsu confirmed their plans to release GAINAX’s classic Nadia: The Secret Of Blue Water in the United Kingdom on both DVD and blu-ray in the second quarter of this year.

Directed by Hideaki Anno of Neon Genesis Evangelion fame and based on a concept by the Academy Award winning Hayao Miyazaki, the 1990 series centres around the crew of the Nautilus submarine, which includes the titular Nadia, a young French inventor called Jean, a group of jewel thieves and the submarine’s Captain Nemo, as they struggle against the Neo-Atlantean forces, who seek world domination. During their journey, Nadia and Jean will have to explore the powers of Nadia’s mysterious blue pendant and her hidden origins.

The 39 episodes of Nadia: The Secret Of Blue Water originally aired in Japan between April 1990 and April 1991.
