Japanese Film Au Revoir l’ete to be Screened in London

The award-winning Japanese drama film Au Revoir l’ete will be screened twice in London courtesy of the film company day for night.

Synopsis

Before 18 year old Sakuko starts university, she visits her aunt Mikie in a seemingly sleepy coastal Japanese town. Mikie meets up with old flame Ukichi who now manages the local love motel, whilst Sakuko gets to know a young Fukushima refugee who works there. A web of relationships evolve throughout the summer with a tone flitting between poetic teenage whimsy and raw human anxiety. New Japanese cinema meets French New Wave in a languid summery tale full of subtle complexities reminiscent in style of Eric Rohmer.

Au Revoir l’ete stars a whole group of talented Japanese actors with the astonishingly brilliant actress Fumi Nikaido taking the lead. She can be seen giving amazing performances in Himizu and Watashi no Otoko, She has support from cinematic stalwarts like Kanji Furutachi (The Woodsman and the Rain), Ena Koshino (The Cowards Who Looked to the Sky), and Makiko Watanabe (Love Exposure). It has a 12A certificate and runs at 126 minutes. Screenings take place at:

The Horse Hospital on April 24th

The Proud Archivist on April 28th

The film will then be available to watch on the website via the distrify platform from April 24th.
