About Stand Alone Complex

In the not so distant future, mankind has advanced to a state where complete body transplants from flesh to machine is possible. This allows for great increases in both physical and cybernetic prowess and blurring the lines between the two worlds. However, criminals can also make full use of such technology, leading to new and sometimes, very dangerous crimes. In response to such innovative new methods, the Japanese Government has established Section 9, an independently operating police unit which deals with such highly sensitive crimes.

Led by Daisuke Aramaki and Motoko Kusanagi, Section 9 deals with such crimes over the entire social spectrum, usually with success. However, when faced with a new A-level hacker nicknamed “The Laughing Man,” the team is thrown into a dangerous cat and mouse game, following the hacker’s trail as it leaves its mark on Japan.

Product Information

Manga UK will be releasing the series as a Deluxe Edition set, based on the French @Anime Ultimate Edition release.

In contrast to the French version, the UK release will be on 11 Blu-ray discs:

  • 4 discs for Stand Alone Complex
  • 4 discs for Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
  • 1 disc for Individual Eleven
  • 1 disc for Laughing Man
  • 1 disc for Solid State Society

The UK release will not contain any of the major errors featured in the Anchor Bay US release; such as dubtitles, English audio switching to Japanese, and lack of chapter stops. The French version has been known to feature color banding but as this UK version is a different disc count there’s no word on whether the masters are completely identical. UPDATE: The distributor confirmed on social media that the video will run at 23.97fps as 30fps is not available to them.

Extra features included on the disc include cast & crew interviews, trailers, textless opening and TV spots.

Manga have confirmed that Individual Eleven, Laughing Man and Solid State Society will be using the same discs as its prior release.

Outside of the disc contents the Deluxe Edition will also include a very special artbook. This artbook is 140 pages long and contains a ton of content in-depth that any Stand Alone Complex fan would want to check out, for instance interviews, cast & crew profiles, episode breakdowns and much more.

And finally, the entire Deluxe Edition set will be housed in a large rigid box with a ‘metallic finish’ and a ‘custom digi-file’. The discs themselves will also feature new artwork.

And that is all of the information officially revealed by Manga Entertainment. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex will be available on Blu-ray starting 4th June 2018 with a Deluxe Edition exclusively on Zavvi. The DVD releases have been released and the compilation films, Solid State Society and other Ghost in the Shell anime properties (the movies & ARISE anime series) are all available on Blu-ray.
