Embassy of Japan opens 2018’s Manga Jiman competition

Earlier this week, the Embassy of Japan in the UK opened this year’s iteration of Manga Jiman, which is a prestigious competition for aspiring comic artists in the UK with a number of prizes for the winning entries.

There are two categories in this year’s competition:

  • Yonkoma Manga, which is for 11-13 year olds. Entrants must submit a 4 panel comic on 1 A4 page.
  • Manga Jiman, which is for anyone aged 14 or older. Entrants must submit a comic spread over 6 – 8 A4 pages. The winning prize for this category is a pair of return air tickets to Japan.

The story theme for both categories must reference ‘home’ and the deadline for entries is 5th November 2018. For those interested, all of the details should be read at the Embassy of Japan in the UK’s website.

A gallery of last year’s winning entries has been posted online, the theme of which was ‘dreams’.
