Hi, I’m a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion Volumes 4 and 5 Review
Hi, I’m a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion is getting an anime adaptation that is set to air this year! Having enjoyed both the original light novels and this manga version, I am very much looking forward to seeing what selection of cast and crew brings this one to life for the anime. In the meantime, let’s return to the manga to find out how things are going for our Rose and Harij.
We reunite with Harij, who is in a foul mood. After working hard for an entire month, he finally found time to visit Rose, only to discover that a thief had broken into her home and she was hiding under the floorboards! Harij arrests the thief and returns to his estate, but the next morning, he’s understandably exhausted from everything that’s happened. He asks one of his employees to fetch the potion he often takes to relieve his tiredness, but there’s an unfortunate mix-up, and he takes the love potion Rose made earlier in the series instead…
Having drunk the potion, Harij quickly heads to Rose’s hermitage, where he hopes she’ll be able to ease some of the symptoms. Thankfully, Harij didn’t ingest must and Rose concludes that the symptoms will pass in time. In the meantime, Harij’s love for Rose is completely unrestrained, and while she believes it’s just the influence of the potion, it’s his real feelings that he’s laying bare to her.
When the potion wears off, Harij summons up the courage to propose to her. He wants her to live with him, ensuring she’s not at the hermitage overnight when there’s no one there to protect her from harm. But most of all, he loves her dearly and wants her nearby. Rose can’t believe her ears when she hears Harji’s proposal, and she wonders if the effects of the potion are lingering, but eventually she’s forced to accept that his feelings are truly his own and her love for him is mutual!
This development could have felt rushed, but given how much time has passed in-universe and that we’re a whole four volumes in now, it feels like about the right time. They’ve spent more than enough time dancing around each other, so we readers just want to see them happy and watch over their relationship.

Volume 4 is actually where the first light novel ended, with Rose and Harij now a couple, having accepted their feelings for one another. But moving into Volume 5, we take a very natural step forward in the story as we find Rose finally moving into Harij’s home. But of course, Harij is a noble and his home is quite a large estate. Being a witch, Rose doesn’t expect to be accepted by his servants, and that’s one of the reasons she was afraid of confessing her feelings to him in the first place. And just as she’s trying to adjust to this big change in living arrangement, she meets a young girl who wishes to become her apprentice…
I’m really glad that the manga chose to adapt Volume 2 of the novels without taking a break or launching a sequel. It would have felt strange at this point to end the series without showing us Rose’s struggles with moving into Harij’s home, but most of all, I don’t think any of us are ready to say goodbye to these characters yet.
This remains the best way to experience the story, as mangaka Kamada has brought a lot of extra personality to our leads through the delightful artwork. It’s always a joy flipping through and seeing Rose’s wide range of emotions while confronted with Harij, who is often overbearing but is easier to like here, compared to the novels. I hope the anime will prove just as charming when we get there.
Hi, I’m a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion Volume 4 and 5 come to the West thanks to Yen Press and continue to be translated by Alethea and Athena Nibley with lettering by Rachel J Pierce. Both releases read well, with some truly hilarious exchanges between Rose and Harji that the team have brought to English wonderfully. Both releases include a colour page, and Volume 5 includes a character design collection, bonus manga and a side story chapter. So there’s plenty here for fans to enjoy.
The manga is still ongoing in Japan with six volumes currently available. However, #6 only just came out this month, so it’s not currently scheduled in for English yet. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long, especially as with the anime, I imagine readers will be keen to keep up-to-date.
Overall, Hi, I’m a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion continues to be a charming read. Now that we’ve moved into material from the second light novel, the story has begun to expand beyond its original goals, but it’s fun to see Rose settle into her new relationship with Harij. Definitely well worth carrying on with if you enjoyed the previous releases!
