Third Window Films Acquires Yuya Ishiis Sawako Decides

Asian film specialist label, Third Window Films, has announced that it has acquired Yuya Ishii’s comedy, Sawako Decides.

The film focuses on a woman named Sawako who finds herself stuck in a rut. Five years after leaving her rural home town and moving to Tokyo she is in her fifth job and with a rather useless fifth boyfriend, Kenichi, who has a daughter from a previous marriage. When her father is taken ill she finds herself returning home to take care of her of him but discovers that her father’s clam processing plant also needs serious attention. Soon she finds herself up against the workers as she tries to resurrect the company.

The film has picked up plaudits from eminent film critics like Tony Rayns who described the film as “a joyous, nuanced, comic drama about female empowerment.” In a press release Third Window Films stated,

“The film, starring ‘Love Exposure’ and ‘Kakera’ star Hikari Mitushima, has won many awards and received high acclaim so we are happy to bring it to the UK.”

Look for its theatrical release at the end of May.
