Police corruption epic Confessions of a Dog on DVD March 14

Third Window Films has announced that it is set to release the highly controversial Japanese film ‘Confessions of a Dog’ as a limited edition 2 disc DVD set.

The film, directed by Gen Takahashi, is described as an epic 3-hour social drama that serves as an exposé of actual crimes committed by Japanese police officers.

Synopsis:
The film follows two characters as they wrestle with the violence and corruption that plagues Japanese law enforcement. When likeable police officer and family man, Takeda (Shun Sugata) is promoted to detective, he finds himself embroiled in and suffering from dirty back room dealings, blackmail and corruption that riddle the Japanese justice system. Meanwhile renegade journalist Kusama (Junichi Kawamoto) has to decide whether he should reveal information that will shake the foundations of Japanese law enforcement. What will happen if both these men listen to their consciences?
The topic was so controversial that when it was originally released few would touch it. To this day it has only had a few cinema screenings and a DVD release. Now, Third Window Films plans to release it here in the UK. In a press release, Third Window Films stated,
“Due to the film’s subject nature it was deemed too controversial to be screened in its native country of Japan and instead was distributed out of Hong Kong. We are pleased to give this film the attention it deserves by releasing a jammed packed 2 disc DVD set including:

An anamorphic widescreen transfer with removable English subtitles
40 minute ‘Making Of’ featuring deleted scenes
Interview with director Gen Takahashi
Panel discussion at the Shinsedei Film Festival
Q&A with director at Shinsedei Film Festival
Trailer
Trailers of other Third Window releases

Third Window Films has also included a Limited Edition collectable 35mm film cell postcard in the first 1,000 copies pressed.
The film will be released on March 14th, 2011.
