BFI Reveals Details of 2012 Anime Season

The British Film Institute (BFI) on London’s South Bank is devoting the weekend from 8th-10th June to anime. It will be showing eight films, mixing the old and the new. Here is a full schedule of events.

8th June, 18.00: From Up on Poppy Hill – “The new film from Studio Ghibli is a compelling coming-of-age tale set just before the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.”

8th June, 20.00: Fullmetal Alchemist 2 – The Sacred Star of Milos – Features a Q&A session with director Kazuya Murata and producer Masahiko Minami after the screening.

9th June, 16.00: Oblivion Island – “A masked creature takes a girl to a magical land in search of her late mother’s hand mirror.”

9th June, 18.30: Children who Chase Lose Voices from Deep Below – “An encounter with a bear-like creature brings a girl into contact with a warrior from an underground land.”

9th June, 21.00: Gintama – The Movie – “An epic samurai sci-fi treat based on the hugely popular manga.”

10th June, 16.00: A Letter from Momo – “A delightful anime that deals with big issues with great fun and imaginative flair.”

10th June, 18.30: The Princess and the Pilot – “A beautiful girl from a noble family embarks on a perilous air journey with an ace pilot.”

10th June, 20.45: Akira – “Seminal anime which almost single-handedly introduced the genre to audiences outside of Japan.”
