The film is based on Minoru Furuya’s manga about a cynical high school kid named Sumida (Shota Sometani) who desires to be a normal kid but a difficult background causes him to suffer an identity crisis where his anger threatens to engulf and destroy him. His only life lines are a community of refugees from the March 11th earthquake and tsunami and his classmate Chazawa (Fumi Nikaidou) who struggles to keep him sane.

Himizu has to be one of the best films of 2012 and has scored rave reviews and won awards at various film festivals around the world including the Critics Award at the Deauville Asian Film Festival.
