Giovanni’s Island Plays at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff

Anime Limited are bringing Giovanni’s Island to the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff, South Wales. The film will be screened next week on Wednesday, November 12th at 10:30am and 8:30pm and Thursday, November 13th at 6:00pm.

Synopsis

On the tiny island of Shikotan in the aftermath of a devastating conflict, friendship among children from two different countries timidly blossoms, as they strive to overcome language barriers and the waves of history. Inspired by true events of the Russian occupation of the Kuril Islands off the coast of Japan, this is a very human story with beautiful hand-drawn animation.

Anime Limited licensed the award-winning anime earlier this year and gave details of its release in both cinema and home video formats in an “Ultimate Edition” release in Winter 2014, of which only 1000 units will be printed. This comes ahead of its standard DVD release on January 26th. Giovanni’s Island is on a tour of the UK with appearances at the BFI London Film Festival and this month’s Leeds Film Festival where it will be screened next week.
