Dengeki Bunko announces A Certain Project 2018 with Index Season 3

After many years, Dengeki Bunko can finally grant the wish that folks have been waiting for.

During the weekend, the light novel publisher Dengeki Bunko hosted an event called Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival 2017 (Dengeki Bunko Aki no Saiten 2017) where it was teased that there would be some news related to the Index franchise. Rumours eventually began about a new third season, but now it has officially been confirmed that A Certain Magical Index III will happen and it will begin airing in 2018. This is part of the A Certain Project 2018 announcement, which details that it is ‘not just Index.’

So far voice actors Atsushi Abe (voice of Toma Kamijo) and Yuka Iguchi (voice of Index) appeared on stage during the festival to confirm they will be returning to reprise their roles for the respective characters.

A Certain Magical Index is a long running light novel series that has been split into two instalments; the original 25 volumes series, and the sequel New Testament which is on-going at currently 18 volumes. The series also gathered a spin-off; A Certain Scientific Railgun manga series which is also on-going for 12 volumes. Yen Press have the license to A Certain Magical Index’s light novel with at least 12 volumes translated so far in print. Seven Seas have the license to A Certain Scientific Railgun manga with all of the volumes translated and up-to-date in print.

If you cannot wait that long there is also an upcoming video game set for February 15th 2018 called A Certain Virtual On, which is a collaboration between A Certain Magical Index & Scientific Railgun and SEGA’s Virtual On series. The game will be available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
