MVM Schedules UK Blu-ray releases for Koyomimonogatari, Owarimonogatari Part 3 and Zoku Owarimonogatari

UK distributor MVM Entertainment has officially announced on their social media platform they were able to finally acquire the rights to the remainder of the Monogatari series for home video release.

While prices have yet to be revealed, the distributor confirmed Koyomimonogatari will be available in June 2021, Owarimonogatari Part 3 will be available in July 2021, and Zoku Owarimonogatari will be available in August 2021. Each will be presented as regular Blu-ray sets and in Japanese audio with English subtitles like the previous arcs were prior.

Since 2013, MVM have released every Monogatari arc from Bakemonogatari all the way to the Kizumonogatari film trilogy. However, because the sole licensor of the franchise is with Aniplex of America, it took the distributor a lot longer than expected to acquire the remaining arcs left.

Koyomimonogatari is a 12 episode short-form series released in January 2016, around the same time that Kizumonogatari started getting theatrically released in Japan. The final two episodes provide important context that continues into Owarimonogatari Part 3. The series did not stream legally so the upcoming Blu-ray release will be the first time UK viewers will be able to access the series.

Owarimonogatari Part 3, also known as Owarimonogatari Second Season, Owarimonogatari Volume 3 or Owarimonogatari II, is a 7 episode continuation to Owarimonogatari’s earlier content but set after Koyomimonogatari due to that show’s final two episodes. The season aired in August 2017 and simulcasted on Crunchyroll.

Zoku Owarimonogatari is a 6 episode season released theatrically first in Japan on November 2018 before getting a broadcast in May 2019. Despite being the final story arc for the Monogatari franchise, much like Koyomimonogatari, unfortunately the arc did not stream legally so the upcoming Blu-ray release will be the first time UK viewers will be able to access the series.

As there are so many story arcs within the franchise, you can find below the viewing order for Monogatari. Newcomers can start with either Bakemonogatari or Kizumonogatari before watching the other, and proceeding with Nisemonogatari onwards.

Links are included if available for the individual sets that can still be acquired through MVM’s Anime-on-line store.
