Anime Limited Confirms Lupin III: The First UK Theatrical Screening via Showcase Cinemas

Previously in November 2020, Anime Limited revealed plans to provide a number of anime films for UK theatrical screens throughout 2021. Fast-forward to this past week, the distributor has confirmed that one of those films will soon be heading to the cinema screens this June!

The film was revealed to be Lupin the Third: The First (also known as Lupin III: The First), a 2019 CG anime film from TMS Entertainment in collaboration with Marza Animation Planet who are known for their work on the recent live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film. The film is dedicated to the franchise’s creator Monkey Punch, who sadly passed away in 2019.

The distributor has confirmed the film will screen on Wednesday 2nd June 2021 exclusively to the cinema chain Showcase Cinemas in Japanese audio with English subtitles, for the following locations:

  • Bristol Avonmeads – 7:15pm
  • Bristol – 7:30pm
  • Derby – 7:30pm
  • Dudley – 7:15pm
  • Glasgow – 7:20pm
  • Leeds – 7:15pm
  • Liverpool – 7:30pm
  • Nottingham – 7:10pm
  • Paisley – 7:00pm
  • Peterborough – 6:45pm
  • Reading – 7:30pm
  • Southampton – 8:15pm
  • Teesside – 7:30pm

The film has been rated 12A by the British Board of Film Classification for ‘brief moderate violence, sex references’. The distributor also has the rights to release the film for home video, which will include the GKIDS English dub that brings back the Lupin the Third Part IV & V cast.

While the distributor has mentioned these as part of their 2021 plans back in November, the Film Distributor’s Association website has listed Josee, the Tiger and the Fish and Violet Evergarden the Movie for UK cinemas this Summer, in addition to the latter already being rated by the BBFC.
