Studio Ghibli Distributor Elysian Enters Insolvency
Elysian Film Group Distribution, who handled the recent UK releases of Studio Ghibli films such as The Boy and the Heron and the IMAX re-release of Princess Mononoke, has ceased trading.
Founded in 2020 by former StudioCanal UK CEO Danny Perkins as the distribution arm for his production company Elysian Film Group (itself founded in 2018), the label was better known by anime fans for distributing the films of Studio Ghibli, starting with The Earwig and the Witch and their other new release being The Boy and the Heron, which they released in cinemas and on home video. Elysian also handled theatrical re-releases of older favourites including Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro, and Princess Mononoke. They had previously announced a re-release of Howl’s Moving Castle for Easter 2025, but the release was cancelled without explanation.
The production company Elysian Film Group will continue operations.
