UK Screenings of Karigurashi no Arrietty
Anime UK News have information on screenings of Studio Ghibli’s latest film, Arrietty, which will be shown at a number of locations prior to a proposed theatrical release pencilled in for the 29th of July.
Based on Mary Norton’s classic 1952 book, The Borrowers, the film follows a boy named Sho, who moves into his great aunt’s house in the Tokyo suburbs where a 14-year-old Borrower named Arrietty and her family live under the floorboards. Arrietty tries her best to prove her worth by helping her father “borrow” much-needed items from their human landlords but Sho discovers their existence. A relationship develops between Sho and Arrietty even though it puts the lives of the Borrowers’ in danger and they must work together to protect the existence of the Borrowers.
Originally released in Japan in July 2010, Studio Ghibli’s Karigurashi no Arrietty (The Borrowers Arrietty) is being handled by Optimum Releasing and will receive its official UK premier screening at the Barbican and will then be followed by two screenings at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
The film has been adapted by Hayao Miyazaki and directed by long time Studio Ghibli animator Hiromasa Yonebayashi. The anime has been given a U certificate and has a 94 minute running time.
It will be shown on the 6th of July at the Barbican.

Both screenings will be at the Filmhouse Cinema with tickets going on sale today priced at £9 with £7.50 concessions for students and senior citizens.
