DreamWorks brings in Rupert Sanders to direct Ghost in the Shell

Do you remember a while ago when DreamWorks Pictures obtained the rights to adapt Masamune Shirow’s cyberpunk Ghost in the Shell manga? Well, things are starting to kick up again. Today, Deadline is reporting that DreamWorks have signed up Rupert Sanders (Snow White & The Huntsman) to direct the movie, which has received a new script from William Wheeler (Hoax, The Reluctant Fundamentalist).

Previously, the exploits of Motoko Kusanagi and the rest of Public Security Section 9 were brought to the big screen in two theatrical features directed by Mamoru Oshii (which was famously the inspiration for the “digital rain” in The Matrix), as well as the Standalone Complex TV anime which covered two seasons and an OVA and the newer Ghost in the Shell: Arise 4-part OVA series.

Manga Entertainment UK have released every animated iteration of Ghost in the Shell other than the more recent Arise in the United Kingdom.
