Anime at the 28th Leeds International Film Festival

Anime has long been a part of the Leeds International Film Festival and anime fans have a treat this year because the full line-up has been revealed and it is very eclectic and full of gems during its run from November 05th – 20th.

Sunday November 9th – Fanomenon Anime Day

This takes place at Leeds Town Hall – Victoria Hall and the programme consists of titles that have won Academy Awards, and others which are fan favourites:

Appleseed Alpha

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods

 Giovanni’s Island

 Ghost in the Shell

 Grave of the Fireflies

Short Peace

Monday November 10th / Tuesday November 11th  

Masaaki Yuasa, one of the most adventurous animators and directors working in the medium gets something of a retrospective with, Cat Soup to Space Dandy: The Animation of Masaaki Yuasa. As the title suggests, audience members will be able to view a number of titles from his filmography including Cat Soup, The Tatami Galaxy and Space Dandy. Will Ping Pong The Animation and Mind Game get screened? Let us know if you get the chance to see it when it screens at Everyman Leeds Trinity on November 10th and 11th.

Also screening on November 11th, are the live-action adaptations of Tokyo Tribe and Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno at Vue in the Light.

Wednesday November 12th

Giovanni’s Island is screened at Vue in the Light.

Thursday November 13th

The live-action adaptations of Tokyo Tribe and Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno are screened again at Vue in the Light.

Friday November 14th

Friday allows the audience to get a fix of Studio Ghibli with the screening of a new digital print of Grave of the Fireflies followed by the documentary, The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness at Leeds Town Hall.

Saturday November 15th

Leeds Town Hall – Victoria Hall is the place where Fanomenon & Thought Bubble Anime Party Featuring Interstella 555 and Fanomenon and the Thought Bubble comic art festival team throw a giant party at Leeds Town Hall with Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555 getting the party underway with DJs taking over for the rest of the night (until 4am), playing great music accompanying favourite anime films on the giant screen.

Sunday November 16th

More Ghibli happens on this day with a screening of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind followed by another screening of the documentary, The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, both at Cottage Road Cinema. Also screened today is Wings of Honneamise at Vue in the Light.

Monday November 17th

Wings of Honneamise gets one more screening at Vue in the Light.
