Anime Limited News: More Out of Print Stock Updates, MCM & Q3 2018 News Recap
Distributor Anime Limited have been going all-out throughout the months of May and June 2018, and there’s a lot more incoming. Since the last update we have seen a ton of new releases, new license announcements and also some updates on stock & BBFC ratings.
In this write-up we’re going to recap everything that has happened since the beginning of May i.e. our last round-up. Grab some popcorn, because this update is going to be pretty long.
MCM London Announcements Round-up
On 25th to 27th May 2018, Anime Limited attended MCM London Comic Con to reveal their latest announcements and also provide stock early for the fans who attended. The announcements revealed are as followed:
Amanchu! Season 1
The entire first season is coming to the UK on Blu-ray as a limited collector’s edition release. This will be subtitled only as there is currently no English dub produced. You can watch the series on Crunchyroll.
Angelic Layer
The 2001 Studio Bones adaptation of CLAMP’s manga series is returning to the UK on Blu-ray as a limited collector’s edition release. Both the ADV Films English dub as well as the original Japanese audio will be included. The limited collector’s edition release features the traditional AL packaging as well as a 40-page booklet. The series is estimated to be released sometime in Q3.
It is worth clarifying that the previous UK release was slightly edited to remove offending discriminatory language by ADV, however the BBFC did mention that it would have received a 12 uncut rating otherwise – the cut version received a PG rating. You can watch the series on HIDIVE.
Cardcaptor Sakura the Movie 2: The Sealed Card
The second film in the Cardcaptor Sakura franchise is coming to the UK on Blu-ray. This is the sequel to the 70 episode anime series from studio Madhouse. Both the Bang Zoom!/Pioneer English dub as well as the original Japanese audio will be included.
Cowboy Bebop 20th Anniversary Edition
Cowboy Bebop celebrates its 20th anniversary and the distributor will also be celebrating the news with a special re-release for the UK. This release will feature the complete series and the movie Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door on Blu-ray plus all of the TV series original soundtrack on CD. The Bandai English dubs from the TV series & movie will be included alongside the original Japanese audio.
Folks did ask about a Vinyl version of the music (which is what Funimation planned for their special release) but the distributor has confirmed that they won’t be releasing it in that format. You can watch the series on Crunchyroll & Netflix.
FLCL Original Soundtrack on Vinyl
While their Vinyl releases are still being worked on, they have announced plans to release the original soundtrack of FLCL in that format! No news on the exact release date at the time of this write-up.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00
The series that brought us the ‘I AM GUNDAM’ trend is coming back to the UK on Blu-ray! In fact everything 00 related is coming – that’s both seasons plus the Special Edition OVAs and the movie A Wakening of the Trailblazer, the latter two of which were never released in this region before. The TV series and movie will include the Bandai English dub, while the Special Edition OVAs will be will be subtitled only as there is no English dub produced.
Just like the previous Gundam release this franchise will also receive similar special treatment however details are not finalised at this point. You can watch the main TV series on Crunchyroll.
Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt December Sky
The compilation film of Thunderbolt’s first season is coming to the UK on Blu-ray! This will be Anime Ltd’s first Gundam film release so we’re curious to see what sort of packaging they’ll provide for this release. The Nozomi/NYAV Post English dub will be included alongside the original Japanese audio.
Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki
The NHK documentary about Hayao Miyazaki is coming to the UK on home video. This live-action documentary aired in November 2016.
Perfect Blue Ultimate Edition
Like Cowboy Bebop, Perfect Blue will also be getting a new re-release with a special ultimate edition release! This was Anime Limited’s second title to be released in the UK and they’re revisiting the film with more to offer.
The Blu-ray author is now completely redone with a brand new transfer never before seen. In addition the ultimate edition will include the original soundtrack on CD and a 380 page storyboard book fully translated into English. Just like the previous release this will also include the Manga Entertainment English dub as well as the original Japanese audio.
Sound! Euphonium Season 1
What was once lost has now returned, the first season of Kyoto Animation’s series is coming back to the UK on Blu-ray as a limited collector’s edition release. This will be subtitled only as there is currently no English dub produced. The release will also include both the Episode 14 OVA and the specials. You can watch the series on Crunchyroll.
While Pony Canyon have released the series in the United States & Canada, this title is under Crunchyroll’s label similar to Rokka -Braves of the Six Flowers-.
