Masaaki Yuasa’s “Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara” Dated for June 2019

Following its announcement back in October, TOHO has revealed that Kimi to, Nami ni Noretara (lit. Riding a Wave with You), the latest film from anime director Masaaki Yuasa (DEVILMAN crybaby, Lu over the Wall) will open in Japanese cinemas on 21 June 2019 – a month before Makoto Shinkai’s Weather Child: Wandering With You. A release in the United Kingdom has yet to be confirmed.

Synopsis (from Anime News Network):

Upon entering university, Hinako moves to a coastal town. She loves surfing, and when she’s on the waves she’s fearless, but still feels uncertain about her future. When a fire wreaks havoc in the town, Hinako encounters young firefighter Minato. As they surf and spend more time together, Hinako feels drawn to someone like Minato who devotes himself to helping other people. Hinako also holds a special place in Minato’s heart.

Anime Limited released both of Masaaki Yuasa’s most recent films, Night is Short, Walk on Girl and Lu over the Wall on DVD & Blu-ray earlier this year, following theatrical releases in 2017. You can read our interview about the films with the director himself, here. His most recent TV anime series, DEVILMAN crybaby, was released on Netflix back in January.
