About Mirai:
Mirai is directed and written by Mamoru Hosoda who also worked on The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Wolf Children, and The Boy and the Beast. His latest film was animated by Studio Chizu and was theatrically released in Japan on 20th July 2018. It was also the first anime film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival on 16th May 2018.
Alongside the director, we have film producer Yuichiro Saito, art directors Takashi Omori and Yohei Takamatsu, music composer Masakatsu Takagi (Wolf Children) and cast members Moka Kamishiraishi, Haru Kuroki (The Case of Hana & Alice), Gen Hoshino (Night is Short, Walk on Girl) and Kumiko Asou (Miss Hokusai).
UK distributor Anime Limited brought the film to nationwide theatrical screens on 2nd November and 4th November 2018 in both English & Japanese. The English dub was commissioned by GKIDS featuring John Cho (Star Trek, Searching), Rebecca Hall (The Town, Christine), and Daniel Dae Kim (LOST, Hawaii Five-0) voicing the main cast of characters.
Mirai is also the first non-Studio Ghibli anime film to be nominated for the Best Animated Feature category at the 2019 Academy Awards ceremony. The film has won the Best Independent Animated Feature at the Annie Awards and Best Animated Feature at the Florida Film Critics Circle Awards. Metacritic have given the film 81/100 and Rotten Tomatoes provided a fresh 91% rating.
