MVM Entertainment Announces UK Release Plans for Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul, My Girlfriend is Shobitch & More

UK distributor MVM Entertainment have been providing more updates to their home video schedule over the past couple of months and their latest batch has been revealed!

The first is Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul, the 2020 theatrical film continuation to the 2017 series. Animated by studio Kinema Citrus and directed by Masayuki Kojima, the film is scheduled for UK release on Blu-ray for 6th September. The film was initially planned for a UK theatrical release in April 2020 by Sentai Filmworks but was postponed due to the global pandemic, however it did receive a virtual screening event in September later that year and has been rated by the BBFC with a 15 for ‘strong threat, bloody images’. The film will be presented in English & Japanese audio with English subtitles.

MVM have released the first season on Blu-ray, while a second season has been greenlit for a 2022 airing window alongside a planned video game from Spike Chunsoft for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC (in addition, the game was also rated CERO Z 18+ in Japan). UPDATE: The compilation films Journey’s Dawn and Wandering Twilight will not be released in the UK.

Next is Is the Order a Rabbit? Season 1. Animated by studio White Fox and directed by Hiroyuki Hashimoto, the 2014 series is scheduled for UK release on Blu-ray for 13th September. UPDATE: The distributor has confirmed they have also licensed the second and third seasons for the UK. The series will be presented in Japanese audio with English subtitles only.

“Coming to a new town to start high school can be intimidating, and that’s especially true for Cocoa, who can’t find the place she’s supposed to be staying when she arrives. When she stops at a cafe to ask for directions, however, it turns out that she’s already where she needs to be! You see, the Rabbit House is both a restaurant and a boarding house, and Cocoa will be working there along with the owner’s granddaughter, Chino, and the strangely military-obsessed Rize. It’s a great place to work, business is hopping, and Cocoa fits right in with her new coworkers, as well as the girls from two other rival cafes.

Still, there IS something just a little odd about the Rabbit House. Besides the fact that Rize usually carries a Glock and a knife hidden on her, there’s also a mystery involving the shop’s pet rabbit, Tippy. And then there are those girls who sometimes seem to be able to communicate without talking…”

Also announced was My Girlfriend is Shobitch. Animated by studios Diomedéa and Blanc, and directed by Nobuyoshi Nagayama, the 2017 series is scheduled for UK release on Blu-ray for 20th September. The show contains a lot of sexual references so it’ll be up to the BBFC to determine whether it’ll land uncensored. The series will be presented in English & Japanese audio with English subtitles.

“When Haruka asks his classmate Akiho to go out with him, he’s hoping that she’ll say ‘yes’. What he isn’t expecting is for her to agree, then approach their relationship with an emotionally detached attitude as if she was writing a research paper with sex as the topic!

It’s all about maximizing compatibility, Akiho says, but when preparation for a first date requires Haruka to divulge a comprehensive list of his sexual fetishes in advance for planning purposes, perhaps there’s something to be said for getting to know each other the old-fashioned way! And if Akiho’s clinical approach isn’t awkward enough, things get really weird when it’s time to meet the parents and Haruka learns where Akiho’s odd demeanor comes from! It’s the romantic comedy where T.M.I. and A-Type personalities collide!”
