Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Sees HMV Exclusive Steelbook Release this October
One of the most popular anime in recent years is finally coming to Blu-ray! Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury introduced a whole new generation to one of Japan’s most iconic pop culture franchises when it premiered in 2022, and now the acclaimed mecha series is finally coming home. The retailer HMV announced in a post on X (formerly Twitter) today that they will be exclusively selling Steelbooks of the show’s two seasons, which will be released on Monday 7th October, and retail for £44.99 each. Currently, no regular Blu-ray SKUs have been listed, but we have approached Crunchyroll for comment.
Premiering in October 2022, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury tells a brand new standalone story about Suletta Mercury, a timid “Spacian” bumpkin who enrols in Mercury’s Asticassia School of Technology, and joins a Mobile Suit piloting programme where duels a common place. When she wins a challenge and inadvertently becomes engaged to the more strict and stately heiress Miorine Rembran, the two end up on a path that could decide the future of Earth, and humanity’s colonies in space.
Envisioned as a new entry point for younger fans who had felt that the long-running franchise wasn’t aimed at them, the series proved an incredible success, leading to breaking worldwide sales numbers for the Gundam brand, with Bandai Namco Holdings president Masaru Kawaguchi specifically highlighting the series’ appeal to younger audiences and women – with “Gunpla” model kits of Suletta’s Ariel Gundam also proving an especially high seller.

A.S. (Ad Stella) 122― An era when a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury marks the first time in recent years where Anime Limited are not distributing a Gundam television series on home video. 2021’s Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway movie was acquired by Netflix for worldwide streaming, but Anime Limited sold the film’s imported blu-ray release on behalf of Bandai. However, Crunchyroll did previously acquire and release the Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island movie theatrically, and are releasing on Blu-ray on 30th September. Both seasons of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury were simulcast on Crunchyroll.
