Escaflowne the Movie uses the same characters, mecha and world as the well-loved TV series – but to tell a more direct, fantasy-by-the-numbers story. Redeemed by a wonderful soundtrack and impressive visuals, it still manages to cast a distinctive spell of its own.

Kigurumi Guardians delivers a delicious variation on the magical girl theme that’s artfully written and attractively illustrated by Lily Hoshino; a fun read that has more than a few tricks up its sleeve.

Kiss Him, not Me! gets into its stride in these two entertaining volumes, showing some genuine character development as Kae and her friends come to understand each other as people a little better.
