Gordon-Levitt leads English The Wind Rises cast

Today, Studio Ghibli announced the cast for the English language dub of The Wind Rises, the Golden Globe-nominated final theatrical feature from acclaimed Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki.

Long-time Studio Ghibli fan Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight RisesDon John) has been cast in the lead role of Jiro Horikoshi, a young Japanaese boy who is spurned on by a dream to build planes. Studio Ghibli has always been known for having an all-star cast for its films, but with Gordon-Levitt being one of Hollywood’s hottest talent at the moment, he leads a spectacular cast that also includes Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears PradaEdge of Tomorrow) as Nahoko, Jiro’s love interest who is dying from turbuculosis. Emily Blunt also brings her family along for the ride, with husband John Krasinski (The OfficeMonsters University) playing aircraft designer Honyo and brother-in-law Stanley Tucci (Captain America: The First AvengerThe Hunger Games) as Italian plane designer Giovanni Caproni.

The Wind Rises was released in Japan back in July and is set to have its UK premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival on 21st February, 2014.
