MyAnimeList Partially Back Online After Week-Long Downtime

MyAnimeList has partially returned to service after an extensive period of downtime triggered by the discovery of a security vulnerability, and users can now log in, view the anime database, and update their own lists. The ability to edit account information and export your data is also functional again.

As we previously discussed, if you have not logged in since 23rd May 2018, you’ll be required to reset your MAL password to a different, secure one. If you haven’t already done this, we highly advise you do it as soon as possible.

The full announcement from MyAnimeList is embedded below:

Dear Users,

We have been working around the clock, and some of MyAnimeList’s core functions are now back online.
As we progress in reviewing the security of the site, we have restored the following parts and functions of MAL that have been verified to be secure:

  • Login and Logout enabled.
  • Anime database enabled
  • Viewing, updating and editing your own anime list enabled.
  • Enabled editing of account information including:
    • username
    • email address
    • password
    • social media account connection
  • Exporting your own anime and manga lists (This function is available only on PC).

This list will be updated as we complete our review of the site.

We regret any inconveniences caused, and thank you for your patience and understanding.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact our Customer Service team (rather than the MAL moderation team).

Sincerely,

The MyAnimeList Development Team
