More BBFC Updates! Seven Mortal Sins receives an 18 uncut, Hi Score Girl rated 12, and more.

The UK’s ratings board known as the British Board of Film Classification have released more updates on the latest ratings for recent and upcoming anime titles. It is required by law that the UK distributors have to provide ratings for these titles in order to be released onto home video. Very rarely does an anime get rejected, though it is not impossible as evidently seen with La Blue Girl, an Ikki Tousen Dragon Destiny OVA episode and recently Valkyrie Drive -Mermaid- potentially being cut numerous times (to the point of rejection) if it were brought over here.

In addition to home video ratings there are also video on demand ratings that Amazon and Netflix provide for their UK audience. One of those examples is shown below with a recent Netflix Original series!

The following anime have been rated lately are as follows:

Worth noting that Seven Mortal Sins was rated without any cuts or censorship, as the distributor will be using Funimation’s home video masters for the UK release. Also added to the BBFC database are a couple more Anime Limited listing for titles released months ago (Junjo Romantica Season 2 and March comes in like a Lion Season 1).

The last time an anime has been rated 18 were Baki, Devilman Crybaby and both seasons for The Testament of Sister New Devil.

If you are curious about how the BBFC have reacted during the anime nasties era of the 90s/early 00s we have a special feature on that here. For regular updates we have a forum discussion thread available here.
