BEASTARS Season 1 Now Streaming on Netflix

Streaming service Netflix has begun to stream the first season of the CG anime series BEASTARS on its platform for territories worldwide outside of Japan.

BEASTARS is available in multiple languages for audio and subtitles, including an English dub and Japanese audio with English subtitles. Japan was able to simulcast the series on Netflix Japan as soon as the show aired.

BEASTARS aired in October 2019 (Autumn 2019 anime season) and was adapted by studio Orange (Land of the Lustrous). The anime adaptation is based on the manga series written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki. The manga source material is available to read in English by book publisher Viz Media as part of its VIZ SIGNATURE label.

Studio credits for the anime include Shinichi Matsumi as director, Nanami Higuchi as script composition, Nao Ootsu as character designer, and music composed by Satoru Kōsaki. The opening theme song “Wild Side” was composed by ALI and the closing theme songs “Le zoo”, “Sleeping instinct”, “Marble” and “Floating Story on the Moon” were composed by YURiKA.

Plot Synopsis (Manga via Viz Media):

“At a high school where the students are literally divided into predators and prey, it’s personal relationships that maintain the fragile peace. Who among them is a Beastar – an academic and social role model destined to become a leader in a society naturally rife with mistrust?

Last night at Cherryton Academy, an herbivore student was killed and eaten. Among the members of the drama club, the herbivores’ suspicions naturally turn to their carnivore classmates… The prime suspect? Legosi, a large wolf. But he wouldn’t hurt a fly – or would he? And will dwarf rabbit Haru bring out the beast in him? Or are his feelings for her…something else?”

The series is part of the +ULTRA programming block in Japan, and currently, Netflix has exclusive streaming rights for the anime shows included. The previous titles featured in the block were INGRESS The Animation, Revisions, and Carole & Tuesday with Drifting Dragons currently airing this anime season. Coming soon to the block are BNA: Brand New Animal, Great Pretender and the second season of BEASTARS.
