MVM Entertainment Acquires After the Rain, Demon Girl Next Door & Real Girl

Distributor MVM Entertainment has announced plans to release a few more anime titles from US distributor Sentai Filmworks, with one of them also receiving a collector’s edition box set.

The first title is After the Rain (Koi wa Ameagari no You ni), based on Jun Mayuzuki’s manga and adapted by WIT Studio (Attack on Titan). The series simulcasted on Amazon Prime as part of the NoitaminaA programming block and was eventually acquired by Sentai a few years later. MVM will be releasing the series on Blu-ray with English & Japanese audio with English subtitles. UK Release date is currently set for 26th October 2020.

“Akira Tachibana’s life has taken a wrong turn. Sidelined from her high school track team by an injury, she’s found herself increasingly distanced from her friends and unsure of what to do next with her life. That’s not her biggest worry though.

The real problem is that she’s found someone that she’s interested in, someone who makes her feel like she’s never felt before… even though she knows that, by society’s standards, it’s completely wrong. Because the person at the center of the emotional storm overwhelming her is nearly three times her age and the manager of the restaurant where she’s just begun to work.

So, what now? Does this runner take the next step and tell him how she feels? Or will she stumble, turn, and flee from the one thing she truly wants.”

The second title is The Demon Girl Next Door (Machikado Mazoku), based on Izumo Itō’s manga and adapted by J.C.Staff (A Certain Scientific Railgun). The series simulcasted on HIDIVE by Sentai. MVM will be releasing the series on Blu-ray with English & Japanese audio with English subtitles. UK Release date is currently set for January 2021.

“When Yuko Yoshida wakes up one morning to discover that she’s sprouted horns and a tail, she learns something that her mother has been meaning to tell her. You know that battle between the Light and Dark that’s been going on since the dawn of time? Well, Yuko’s family are the bad guys.

So now, Yuko has to defeat a local magical girl to win back some of her family’s vanquished power so they can afford to go to the all-you-can-eat pancake restaurant. And, of course, it turns out that the Magical Girl goes to Yuko’s school, but Momo’s really nice and keeps rescuing Yuko, which is pretty embarrassing and leaves Yuko rather conflicted… but… all you can eat pancakes? Sometimes you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t when you’re the Demon Girl next door!”

The third title is the complete series of Real Girl (3D Kanojo Riaru Gāru), based on Mao Nanami’s manga and adapted by Hoods Entertainment (Drifters). Both seasons of the series simulcasted on HIDIVE by Sentai. MVM will be releasing the series as a collector’s edition Blu-ray with English & Japanese audio with English subtitles. The collector’s edition will contain a rigid box with a 56-page artbook and 4 art cards from Sentai’s earlier premium release. UK Release date is currently set for 16th November 2020.

“Hikari Tsutsui has never been popular, his one real friend is an even worse otaku than he is, and the only girls he’s known are the two-dimensional women from his manga and video games. Until, that is, he’s sent to help clean the pool as punishment and is partnered with the school’s resident “bad girl”, the very real, very three-dimensional Iroha Igarashi.

Brash, beautiful, and known for her promiscuous behavior, Iroha is loathed by other girls but loved by the guys. And yet, inexplicably, she not only seems to be interested in Hikari, but proposes that they enter into a relationship! Unable to resist, Hikari agrees, but there’s one big catch – Iroha’s moving away in six months, so no matter what happens between them, in half a year Hikari’s guaranteed to lose his real girl!”

Last but not least we have a Blu-ray upgrade for one of MVM’s older anime titles with Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit (Seirei no Moribito), based on Nahoko Uehashi’s manga and novel series and adapted by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex). The Blu-ray is expected to use the same authoring as the Sentai release. UK Release date is currently set for 26th October 2020.

“Balsa’s prowess in battle is legendary, but the weight of death bears heavily on the spear-wielding mercenary’s soul. To atone, she has sworn to save 8 lives, no matter what the cost, and now only one life remains.

Prince Chagum has been blessed with the power to stave off the droughts that threaten to starve and destroy his father’s empire, but he has been accused of being possessed by evil spirits, and court officials have set his own father against him. Condemned to death, he is saved by Balsa’s intervention and now, together, the two must unravel the secret of Chagum’s powers and the spirit behind them… before the armies sent to murder them can succeed!”
