Anime Limited Reveal ‘Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions’ UK Home Video Details

Distributor Anime Limited have revealed their latest addition to the catalogue that will soon be released for the United Kingdom and Ireland. The series in particular is Grimgar: Ashes & Illusions (Hai to Gensou no Grimgar), which is actually supposed to be called Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash though we have no idea why the name was changed for the English releases, probably Funimation’s idea.

The series was revealed for a UK release back in the Q4 2017 reveal line-up and was also rated by the BBFC for a 15 uncut, and with a French release incoming as well from @Anime we knew that the series would be released sooner than later. But today the UK artwork is now available.

Pre-orders via Shop AllTheAnime are also available with an early bird offer for the Collector’s Edition Blu-ray at £29.99 (£19.99 if you have a £10 discount code from either the A Silent Voice delay or as an Xmas gift from Anime Limited for supporting ERASED Part 1 during its early bird sale).

There will be two versions available when it’s tentatively scheduled for release on 5th February 2018:

First we have the Collector’s Edition Blu-ray, which offers a rigid chipboard box as well as a digipack for the discs and a ‘hardback 40-page’ booklet to go along with the release. The discs are expected to be using the Funimation masters which feature English & Japanese audio with English subtitles as well as a fair amount of on-disc content like OVA 2.5 – Staking Our Youths on the Bath Wall – One More Centimeter, Episode 4 Video Commentary, and Trailers.

You’ll notice that the box has French text on it. That is because the artwork shown is based on the French @Anime release which is identical – we don’t know if the French text will be kept or not (which to be honest I actually quite like it). The discs themselves will be the same for the standard edition Blu-ray due for a later time. The SRP for this release is £59.99 which will be available on Shop AllTheAnime for £41.99.

Next we have the Standard Edition DVD release, which offers a different art for the cover and simply DVD discs in a DVD-sized case. If it’s anything like the other Anime Limited releases there could be some reversible artwork as well which is a nice treat for the DVD-only owners out there. Audio is English & Japanese with English subtitles and the SRP will be £29.99 with Shop AllTheAnime offering the set for £20.99.

Amazon UK will also be offering pre-orders for the Blu-ray and DVD sets.

The story synopsis for the anime as follows:

After waking up in a strange new world surrounded by people who can’t remember who they are or where they came from, Haruhiro finds himself drafted into the service of the Volunteer Soldiers. Together with a ragtag party he must set out to make a name for himself in a world where magic and monsters are a part of everyday life.

Grimgar, Ashes & Illusions is also available for legal streaming on Crunchyroll in Japanese with English subtitles and on Funimation with an English dub. The original light novel source material is also available to read from book publisher Seven Seas Entertainment and also through J-Novel Club‘s service.

Grav is your average generic anime character who went to University, joined and took over the Sheffield Hallam anime society, graduated, got a job, and went back to do a Masters degree. He considers himself a man of culture and likes a lot of anime, even the ones that are considered bad. Harems, Isekai, Pouts are also stuff he likes.
