Anime Limited Confirms Violet Evergarden the Movie for UK Cinemas on 1st July
As mentioned in our write-up on Cloud Matsuri’s November 2020 round-up and the recent theatrical release of Lupin the Third: The First, Anime Limited revealed plans to release Violet Evergarden the Movie for the UK.
In recent weeks there were hints that it was going to be released in theaters fairly soon, with the BBFC giving the film a 12A and the Film Distributor’s Association had listed the film for June tentatively. Today, the distributor has officially confirmed their plans to bring Violet Evergarden the Movie to UK cinemas starting 1st July 2021, with an official website available to view and book tickets.
Violet Evergarden the Movie is a 2020 theatrical continuation to the 2018 television series by studio Kyoto Animation, director Taichi Ishidate and writer Reiko Yoshida. Music composer Evan Call also returned to compose the film’s score. While Eternity and the Auto-Memory Doll, the first film released in 2019 and soon to be available on Blu-ray this August, was a standalone story, Violet Evergarden the Movie will require knowledge of the events of the television series.
“After working as an Auto Memory Doll, Violet Evergarden has come to learn the meaning of the words “I love you.” Her soul, which has been deeply scarred by the war, has begun to heal. She continues to move forward in life, helping others in need, while keeping the words of the first person who ever said “I love you” to her close to her heart. When she takes on a job to write a letter for a terminally-ill boy, time starts to move forward.”

Netflix have exclusive streaming rights for all of Violet Evergarden, with plans to stream Violet Evergarden the Movie at an unspecified date. In Japan, Kyoto Animation plans to release the film in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision (HDR).
