Makoto Shinkai to Attend Early “Suzume” Screening Next Month

Suzume, the latest film from celebrated anime director Makoto Shinkai, isn’t due to be released in cinemas until 14th April 2023. However, Crunchyroll have today announced that fans who wish to experience the Your Name creator’s latest story a little early are in for very special treat – a special preview screening with Makoto Shinkai himself in attendance!

This special screening will take place on Wednesday 1st March at the BFI Southbank in London. Tickets on sale from Wednesday 15th February at 16:00 for the general public, with BFI Champions & Patrons, and Members getting early access from 11:30am and 12:30pm respectively. Tickets cost £18 for adults and £14 for concessions, with BFI Membership gaining an exclusive discount on those prices.

Crunchyroll describes the story of Suzume as follows:

On the other side of the door, was time in its entirety—

As the skies turn red and the earth trembles, Japan stands on the brink of disaster. But one determined teenager, Suzume, sets out on a mission to save her country. Able to see the supernatural forces that others can’t, it’s up to her to close the mysterious doors spreading chaos across the land. A perilous journey awaits as the fate of the country rests on her shoulders.

Suzume is the seventh feature film from Makoto Shinkai, who was catapulted to international success with the then-record breaking release of the 2016 Sci-Fi romance Your Name. Shinkai followed the success of Your Name with the release of Weathering With You in 2019. Anime Limited previously released Your Name and Weathering With You in cinemas and on home video.

Suzume will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland from 14th April 2023.
