Satoshi Kon new film; Ani-Kuri stream; Red Line; Casshern

  • Details and images of Satoshi Kon’s next movie, tentatively titled Dreaming Machine (Yume-miru Kikai), are gradually leaking online. Iwa ni Hana explains that the story is being described as a “future folklore story for children“, with early character designs certainly suggesting that Kon will be aiming for a more family-orientated audience this time around (compared with his darker, adult-themed movies like Perfect Blue and Paprika).
  • As Japanese TV station NHK has officially released streams for their latest batch of Ani-Kuri short films (all are no more than one minute in length), Catsuka has posted up streaming video objects for all of them. This batch features the talent of several famous anime creators; Satoshi Kon (Paprika), Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star), Michael Arias (Tekkonkinkreet), Mahiro Maeda (Gankutsuou) and Shoji Kawamori (Macross).
  • Amateur filmed (at the recent Tokyo Anime Fair) trailers for the insanely-stylish looking theatrical movie Red Line and the latest Casshern TV anime have been posted online.
  • Red Line is being directed by Takeshi Koike, mostly known for his work on the “World Record” segment of the “Animatrix” anthology, and also features Katsuhito Ishii, a well-known Japanese director noted for his surreal and eclectic style; Ishii has worked on both live action films (The Taste of Tea, Funky Forest) and anime (Kill Bill Chapter 3: The Origin of O-Ren).
