The Autumn Season 2019 has something for everyone - so long as you like isekai, it seems. In spite of initial appearances, there are several interesting new shows (not just isekai) to watch as well as returning favourites. The Anime UK News writers are here with some recommendations...
While I didn’t end up being a massive fan of Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, I can certainly see why it gathered a solid fanbase. If you enjoyed the first half of this series then you’ll love this second half, but those who weren’t as keen won’t have their minds changed.
Fate/Apocrypha’s second half does well to bring its story to a conclusion, pitching in with some fantastic fight sequences and art direction, all the while showing some good character development along the way.
Overall, Konosuba: An Explosion on this Wonderful World! continues to be a worthwhile read for fans of the Konosuba franchise. Although it’s unclear what the series intends to do next, as a Megumin and explosion fan, I'm certain I’ll enjoy it regardless.
Overall, Granblue Fantasy Volume 1 is a stellar start to a beloved fantasy franchise. Fans of the series will be pleased to read this entertaining and accurate take on the story, while newcomers will be captivated by Gran and Lyria’s adventure
The first half of Record of Grancrest War provides enough action and political intrigue to entertain, with a sense that events will be gearing up during the second half.
Overall, the first volume of Beastars is not going to be enough for you to decide if you like the series or not. There are certainly some interesting concepts in play and it’s a unique story, but I’m not convinced that’s quite enough for every reader.
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade presents a story of loss and sacrifice with a simple yet moving premise presented effectively thanks to the winning combination of Mamoru Oshii’s writing and Hiroyuki Okiura’s directing.
Dragon Ball used to have a reputation of it “just being people fighting”, which, while it was often close to that (particularly in the Z era) was never just people fighting… until now! Let’s have a look at the start of an 80-man Battle Royal, shall we?
English dubs of Cardcaptor Sakura, Cowboy Bebop, Tokyo Ghoul and more are available now. Other series including Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill are to follow.
Tokyo Ghoul: re Volume 13 presents a near constant on-the-edge read as an inquiry into Furuta’s integrity turns violent and Kaneki takes truly desperate measures to protect the ones he loves.
What can you say about an anime series that opens with an episode featuring elements of the supernatural, mecha, high school comedy and general super-powered action? Well, you say “Okay then, let’s see where this goes…”
Netflix has released a bunch of new info including trailers and dates for Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Reawakened, Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 and Levius among others.
Overall this volume of O Maidens in your Savage Seasons spends most of its time setting up for the following release, which is by no means a bad thing. Fans of Sonezaki and Kazusa will enjoy Volume 4, but those looking for focus on the other girls might be disappointed.
Overall the seventh volume of Kokoro Connect is one of the best yet. The stakes have never been higher as the relationships built up through the books so far are put to the ultimate test. This series continues to be one of the more engrossing, thrilling stories in the light novel market right now.
